Chhattisgarh chase down 179 to beat Andhra at DVR Ground
Chhattisgarh beat Andhra by five wickets at the DVR Ground in Vijayawada in a Ranji Trophy Elite Group B fixture on Thursday, Oct 29, 2026, denying Andhra even the single point for a draw after the hosts tried to force an outright result. The visitors completed the chase in the extended period of play to register the win.
After losing the first-innings lead, Andhra declared its second innings at 184 for three to set Chhattisgarh a target of 179 with one-and-a-half sessions left. Andhra skipper Ricky Bhui remained unbeaten on 72 off 75 balls (4x4, 3x6) and was in partnership with Karan Shinde, who made an undefeated 53 off 54 balls (6x4, 1x6); Bhui declared as soon as Shinde reached his half-century. Bhui’s declaration was a bid to chase all six points after Amandeep Khare’s unbeaten 89 in the first innings had given Chhattisgarh a first-innings advantage.
Chhattisgarh’s chase was anchored by opener Anuj Tiwary, who scored 60 off 73 balls (7x4, 1x6) and frequently came down the track to counter the slow turn on offer while rotating the strike. After Tiwary’s dismissal, Ajay Mandal and Dev Aditya Singh carried the innings through the final stages; Mandal scored 28 and Dev Aditya Singh finished unbeaten on 34 to take Chhattisgarh home. The visitors reached 182 for five in 35.1 overs to complete the five-wicket victory.
