Chinmay Sutar became only the second batter to score a quadruple century in Indian domestic cricket when he reached 400 not out for Mizoram against Nagaland in a Ranji Trophy Plate Division match at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima on 19 October, 2026.

The landmark knock followed an encouraging start to Sutar’s Ranji Trophy career. In his debut appearance he was run out for 99. Before joining Mizoram, Sutar had represented Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Sutar’s marathon innings featured 46 fours and seven sixes. He was on 231 when Lalrempuia arrived at the crease as the final batter and continued to add runs before Mizoram declared at 581 for nine. Sutar remained unbeaten on 400 off 517 deliveries.

With the 400, Sutar joined an exclusive group of players to surpass the 400-run mark in a single innings alongside Brian Lara and Don Bradman. Before Sutar, Maharashtra’s BB Nimbalkar had the highest first-class score in India with an unbeaten 443 against Kathiawar in Pune on 16 December, 1948.

During his innings Sutar moved past Prithvi Shaw on the Ranji Trophy highest-scores list and is now second in that standing; Shaw scored 379 off 383 balls for Mumbai versus Assam on 1 August, 2023.
