Chris Lynn one-month ban for cocaine use disclosed after July T20 Blast test

Chris Lynn, 36, has had a one-month suspension for a positive drugs test revealed two months after he served the ban; the former Brisbane and Adelaide Big Bash League batsman tested positive on the day of England’s T20 Blast finals in July and was handed the suspension in August.
The positive sample produced an adverse analytical finding for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, and Lynn admitted to using the drug days earlier; he did not hold a therapeutic use exemption and successfully argued the matter was an out-of-competition violation unrelated to sporting performance, leading to a backdated ban covering 31 July to 30 August.
England’s Cricket Regulator recorded that Lynn admitted the anti-doping rules violation and accepted a three-month suspension that was reduced to one month after he completed a "substance of abuse treatment program".
Lynn had helped Northamptonshire to the T20 Blast title before the positive test was recorded on the day of the finals in July.
After the T20 Blast Lynn was due to play in Sri Lanka but, following a single appearance, he was ruled out with an unspecified leg injury on 29 July.
Any further disciplinary action is a matter for his Big Bash League club, and Lynn is considered available because he has served the penalty and is not on a Cricket Australia contract.
The disclosure of the ban came days after reports linking Lynn with a move to the Melbourne Renegades for the season that begins next month.
