CM Punk secured the fifth spot in the 2026 Money in the Bank ladder match after winning a triple threat on SmackDown in 2026, following his loss of the Undisputed title to Sami Zayn. His history at Money in the Bank pay-per-views stretches back to his MITB debut in 2008 and includes multiple headline moments across subsequent editions.

Punk made his Money in the Bank debut at WrestleMania 24 in 2008, competing in the ladder match against Chris Jericho, Shelton Benjamin, John Morrison, Carlito, MVP and Mr. Kennedy and winning the briefcase. He returned to the ladder match at WrestleMania 25 in 2009, facing Kane, Mark Henry, MVP, Finlay, Shelton Benjamin, Kofi Kingston and Christian and again retrieving the contract.

At WrestleMania 26 in 2010 Punk entered a stacked ladder match that included Kane, Christian, Kofi Kingston, Matt Hardy, Evan Bourne, Drew McIntyre and Jack Swagger; despite a strong performance he failed to capture the briefcase and Jack Swagger emerged victorious. The 2010 bout ended without Punk securing another MITB contract.

Punk’s 2011 Money in the Bank pay-per-view encounter was a WWE Championship match with John Cena in which Punk, with his WWE contract set to expire and having vowed to leave the company with the title if he won, defeated Cena to capture the WWE Championship. After that victory Punk exited the arena with the title and blew a kiss to Vince McMahon, a moment the original report described as creating one of the most iconic moments in WWE history.

At the 2012 Money in the Bank PPV Punk defended the WWE Championship against Daniel Bryan in a No Disqualification match with AJ Lee as the special guest referee, and Punk retained the title. In 2013 Punk again competed in a Money in the Bank ladder match for a WWE Championship contract against Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Christian and Rob Van Dam; he did not secure the briefcase, which Randy Orton claimed after interference by Paul Heyman, who betrayed Punk and set up a new rivalry.

In 2026, following his loss of the Undisputed title to Sami Zayn, Punk rebounded on SmackDown by defeating Finn Balor and Gunther in a triple threat to claim the fifth spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match. Punk is the only WWE Superstar to win Money in the Bank ladder matches in consecutive years, having won the briefcase at WrestleMania XXIV in 2008 and again at WrestleMania XXV in 2009, and he was the first wrestler to win the match twice.

By securing that fifth entry on SmackDown, Punk is now entered in the Money in the Bank ladder match at the PPV and will be among the competitors vying for the contract on the pay-per-view.
