Coventry City v Newcastle United: Premier League preview, team news and prediction

Coventry City will face Newcastle United at the Coventry Building Society Arena on October 13 in the sixth matchweek of the Premier League 2026-27 season. Coventry arrive off their first league win while Newcastle have recorded two wins from five fixtures.

After an underwhelming start, the Frank Lampard-led side claimed a 0-1 victory over Nottingham Forest before the international break and will seek to build on that momentum at home. Being at the Coventry Building Society Arena is cited as an advantage for the Sky Blues, who must avoid mistakes against a visiting Newcastle side. Newcastle have won twice in their opening five league matches and earned three points in their most recent outing against Hull City after scoring two early goals, though the report notes inconsistency in their campaign.

Coventry’s match-winner against Nottingham Forest came from 28-year-old left wing-back Jay Dasilva, who also created a chance and was praised for his work rate on the left flank. The report highlights Dasilva’s contribution as a key element of Coventry’s first victory of the season.

For Newcastle, the 28-year-old Harvey Barnes provided two assists in the last match, created the most chances (3) and has three goal contributions in five Premier League appearances this season. The source describes Barnes as a constant threat on the left flank despite not scoring in that outing.

Injury absences listed for Coventry are Haji Wright, Josh Eccles, Luke Woolfenden and Aurele Amenda. Newcastle will be without Anthony Elanga and Ewen Jaouen due to injury, while William Osula, Daniel Burn, Valentino Livramento and Jacob Ramsey are not yet confirmed for selection owing to fitness concerns.

The reported match squads appear as follows: Rushworth (GK); Mfuni, Thomas, Pinnock; Van Ewijk, Onyeka, Grimes, Dasilva; Rudoni, Mason-Clark; Thomas-Asante. Hornicek (GK); Hall, Botman, Thiaw, Dedic; Gonzalez, Miley; Murphy, Wissa, Barnes; Fernandez-Pardo.

Prediction: Coventry City 1-2 Newcastle United. This match will kick off on October 13 at 12:30 am IST and will be available to viewers in India via JioHotstar and the Star Sports Network; live streaming is accessible through the JioHotstar app and website.
