Cyle Larin leads Championship scoring charts after blistering start
On 15 September 2026, Southampton striker Cyle Larin was the leading goalscorer in the Championship after a prolific start to the season, having scored 17 goals in 31 appearances and seven goals in seven league matches, a tally that sat above any player in Europe’s top five leagues.
Larin, 31, arrived at Southampton on an initial loan from Mallorca in early 2026 and made an immediate impact by scoring three minutes into his Saints debut, finishing last season with eight Championship goals in 16 games during the second half of the campaign; that spell was followed by a World Cup run with Canada, where he scored two goals, including a late equaliser against Bosnia-Herzegovina, as Jesse Marsch’s side reached the last 16 before losing to Morocco.

Reflecting on the team contribution after scoring twice in Southampton’s 4-1 win over Bristol City on Saturday, Larin told BBC Radio Solent: "It feels good but I don't think I can do this without my team-mates," and added, "They play such a big role in me being able to score and I have to give credit to the coach too, he's given me the role to play free up there and that's what I'm doing."
BBC Radio Solent’s Harvey Gration outlined Larin’s playing style as one of simplicity and positional discipline—rarely dropping into the build-up, making powerful runs into channels and drifting to the back post to exploit crosses from right-back James Bree—and noted that Finn Azaz and Leo Scienza, who have five goals and six assists between them this term, provide the creative support that opens space for Larin; Larin had joined Southampton after an unproductive loan at Feyenoord where he scored once in 15 appearances, mostly from the bench.
Larin will collect a key to his hometown of Brampton during the upcoming international break, and he remains Canada’s second all-time leading goalscorer.
