Dani Carvajal’s proposed Getafe transfer collapses despite medical clearance

Dani Carvajal’s proposed return to LaLiga with Getafe collapsed on Wednesday despite the veteran right-back having passed a medical, Getafe president Ángel Torres confirmed. Torres said the agreement to sign the 34-year-old has broken down.
Carvajal left Real Madrid when his contract expired this summer and remains without a club. Widespread reports had linked the former Madrid defender to Getafe, and Torres told DAZN, "We’re working on it," adding, "He passed his medical and everything. All that is left is for LaLiga and I to achieve an agreement." Getafe, based in the Madrid area, sit 11th in LaLiga.
The proposed transfer ended after Getafe and LaLiga failed to reach an accord, Torres said, stating plainly, "There’s nothing; (the agreement) has broken down." The president’s comments confirmed the collapse of negotiations at the final stage.
Carvajal is a product of Real Madrid’s academy and spent 13 seasons at the Bernabeu, where he collected 27 trophies, including a joint-record six Champions League titles. He departed the club in 2026 when his contract expired.
Injury problems have affected the latter stages of his Real Madrid career. He sustained a cruciate ligament injury in October 2024 and suffered another catastrophic knee injury a year later.
Those setbacks contributed to Carvajal making just 23 appearances for Los Blancos in the most recent season. His final official appearance for Real Madrid came on May 23, 2026, when he started in a 4-2 win over Athletic Club.
With talks between Getafe and LaLiga collapsed, Carvajal remains unattached following his 2026 exit from Real Madrid and the proposed move to Getafe is off the table, according to Torres.
