Deepika, Rutuja and Navneet score hat-tricks as India rout Indonesia 17-1 at Asian Games

India defeated Indonesia 17-1 in a women's hockey Pool B match at the Asian Games in Kakamigahara on September 21, 2026, with Deepika Sehrawat, Rutuja Dadaso Pisal and Navneet Kaur each recording a hat-trick. The victory was India’s second consecutive Pool B win at the tournament.

India arrived at Kakamigahara on the back of a 19-0 win over Uzbekistan on September 20, 2026, in which Deepika had scored eight goals. The team produced another comprehensive scoreline on Monday as it continued to press an inexperienced Indonesian defence.

India had an early penalty stroke in the fourth minute after which Navneet’s attempt was saved by the Indonesia goalkeeper. Deepika opened the scoring in the eighth minute by converting a penalty corner, and Sunelita Toppo doubled the lead in the 11th minute by tapping in a pass from Neha.

Lalremsiami struck in the 12th minute from a rebound after Deepika’s flick from a set piece was saved, and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal added a goal in the 15th minute by pushing the ball home following Sakshi Rana’s initial attempt. Lalremsiami then scored again a minute later and Rutuja netted her second in the 20th minute, converting Neha’s pass.

Sakshi extended the lead with a rebound to make it 7-0 in the 27th minute before Deepika converted another penalty corner in the 28th minute. Sunelita then sent in Navneet’s hit from a penalty corner to give India a 9-0 advantage at half-time.

Navneet’s goals came in the 35th, 56th and 57th minutes. In addition, Sunelita Toppo (11th, 30th), Lalremsiami (12th, 16th) and Sakshi Rana (25th, 57th) scored a brace each while skipper Salima Tete (35th) and Ishika Chaudhary (36th) also found the net once. Indonesia’s lone goal was by Innes Aditiya from a penalty corner in the 32nd minute.

Two minutes after the change of ends Indonesia pulled a goal back through Innes Aditiya (32nd) before Salima Tete (35th) and Ishika Chaudhary (36th) scored for India; Navneet completed her treble with late goals in the 56th and 57th minutes while Sakshi added another in the 57th.

India will face Thailand next on Wednesday, September 23, and the team needs to win a gold medal at the Asian Games to earn direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
