Delhi Capitals name Sourav Ganguly as head coach in IPL 2027 coaching lineup
Delhi Capitals announced their coaching staff for the Indian Premier League 2027 on October 6, 2026, appointing former India captain Sourav Ganguly as head coach. The franchise also confirmed Yuvraj Singh as batting coach, Chaminda Vaas as bowling coach and Amit Mishra as spin bowling coach.
The announcement comes as Delhi Capitals remain one of the IPL teams yet to win a title; they were runners-up in 2020 and have missed the playoffs in each season since 2022, a run of five seasons. In the most recent edition they finished sixth, winning seven of 14 matches. The franchise has been active in the off-season, including the trade of Rishabh Pant from Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the IPL 2027 auction, and retains players such as KL Rahul and current captain Axar Patel in the squad.
Sourav Ganguly’s promotion is his first appointment as the official head coach of the franchise despite prior roles with the side in both the IPL and the SA20. The move replaces Hemang Badani in the head coach post and has been widely reported for the JSW and GMR co-owned franchise.
Yuvraj Singh joins the backroom as batting coach; while new to coaching in the IPL, he has previously mentored Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. The franchise presented his hiring as a key addition to the batting coaching setup for the upcoming season.
Chaminda Vaas is set to take charge of the pace bowling group, bringing experience from past spells as bowling coach for Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Amit Mishra will serve as the spin bowling coach; he is noted as the only bowler with three hat-tricks in the IPL.
Alongside the new hires, Delhi Capitals have retained most of their core coaching and support staff ahead of IPL 2027 while making the high-profile changes to the top of the coaching unit. The combination of retained personnel and the newly appointed specialists forms the franchise’s operational group for the upcoming edition.
