The Delhi High Court on Thursday (October 29, 2026) directed former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly to identify the specific scenes and dialogues in the film Doosra that he alleges infringe his personality rights. Justice Tejas Karia also asked the filmmakers to submit a pen drive containing the movie for the court’s review.

The film Doosra is described in court filings as a fictional story about a middle-class girl from Rajasthan inspired by sporting events involving Mr. Ganguly, and counsel for Mr. Ganguly told the court the film had already hit theatres last week but was yet to be released on OTT platforms. The High Court had on October 23 sought a response from Doosra’s makers to Mr. Ganguly’s allegations and directed them to arrange a screening, and on October 22 declined to restrain the film’s theatrical release.

Justice Karia instructed the former cricketer to provide a detailed list of objections tied to precise locations in the film and asked the filmmakers to make the work available for inspection. “Prepare a table with a timestamp of the objectionable scene and narration of the objections... We will see it over the weekend and we will hear you,” the court said.

Luv Films LLP, which is producing a separate biopic on Mr. Ganguly, has joined the suit against the makers of Doosra, alleging breach of contractual rights. The court directed the plaintiffs to submit the manuscript of their upcoming film titled ‘Dada’ in a sealed envelope and to explain how the defendants’ movie allegedly infringes their contractual rights.

Counsel for Mr. Ganguly argued in court that the film is fundamentally about his life and that his image had been used without consent, adding that “After intermission, it is all about the (2002) NatWest match.” The same counsel framed the broader contention as: “It is all about Sourav Ganguly’s life. His image has been badly exploited without consent... After intermission, it is all about the (2002) NatWest match,” the counsel submitted.

Representing the filmmakers, counsel told the court they had obtained the necessary permissions from the authorities holding the copyright to the sporting-event footage used in Doosra. The defendants opposed Mr. Ganguly’s plea on the ground that the cricketer served only as a source of inspiration for the film.

Doosra: India’s Other Freedom Struggle is described as a sports drama directed by Abhinay Deo and features Plabita Borthakur, Ankur Vikal and Samidha Guru.

The court has listed the suit for further hearing on November 2, 2026.
