Samaleswari SC were beaten 2-1 by Dempo SC in Rourkela in the second Matchweek of the Indian Football League 2026-27, with Dempo moving to the top of the standings. The result left Dempo on six points from two games.

Odisha hosted second-tier football in Rourkela after a long interval, and the home side drew a large crowd to support Samaleswari. The fixture was one of the Matchweek 2 tieups scheduled across the league.

The away side opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Richmond put Dempo ahead. Rane extended the lead for Dempo near the hour mark to make it 2-0, and Kartik pulled one back for Samaleswari in the 82nd minute; the match finished 2-1 to Dempo.

The win takes Dempo to the top of the table with six points in two games. After a frustrating start last season, the Goan outfit have done well to start the season on a positive note.

Samaleswari conceded their second defeat of the campaign and remain without a point after two matchweeks. After two matchweeks, Samaleswari are yet to clinch a point after back-to-back defeats.

Gameweek 2 still has four more matches remaining. Tomorrow the IFL caravan moves to the Silicon Valley of India, where Bengaluru United take on Mohammedan SC in the opening fixture of the day, followed by Shillong Lajong against Chanmari in Meghalaya in what is being billed as a Northeastern derby.

Those Bengaluru United v Mohammedan SC and Shillong Lajong v Chanmari matches are the opening pair of the remaining four games in Gameweek 2.
