Assam reached 373 in their first innings against Punjab at the New PCA Stadium on Monday in a Ranji Trophy 2026-27 round one match, propelled by centuries from Denish Das and Sibsankar Roy. The pair added 168 for the fourth wicket after Assam were 23 for three at one stage, steering the visitors to a commanding total.

Rain-affected conditions early on and a scoreless opening 34 minutes gave way to more positive batting as the day progressed, allowing Assam’s middle order to rebuild from 23 for three on the opening day. Denish Das and Sibsankar Roy combined for a significant partnership that shifted the momentum, with Assam finishing their first innings on 373 off 117 overs.

Denish Das scored 103 off 186 balls, hitting 15 fours, and relied mostly on running between the wickets after a solitary early boundary came via a flick off Gurnoor Brar. He reached his century in an extended innings and, shortly after reaching three figures, edged an attempted defence onto his pad and was caught at silly point.

Sibsankar Roy remained unbeaten on 143 from 295 balls, striking 20 fours and one six, and reached his hundred in 204 balls by lofting Harpreet down the ground. He began assertively when play resumed, taking two overpitched deliveries from Umesh Yadav for straight- and square-driven boundaries, and used the spinners—twice dancing down to Emanjot Singh Chahal—to score 10 off a single sequence.

Sarupam Purkayastha supported the century-makers with 66 off 87 balls, including seven fours and three sixes, contributing to a 92-run sixth-wicket stand with Sibsankar that extended Punjab’s workload. Assam’s innings included extras of 6 (lb-2, nb-1, w-3) and ended with the fall of wickets at: 1-0, 2-0, 3-23, 4-191, 5-239, 6-331, 7-332, 8-348, 9-367.

Umesh Yadav finished with figures of 24-7-70-5, claiming three of the last five wickets and completing a five-wicket haul that restricted Assam to only 42 additional runs in the closing phase. Punjab’s other bowlers returned the following analyses: Gurnoor 23-3-85-2, Harpreet 24-4-88-1, Ramandeep 2-0-8-0, Emanjot 27-7-68-2, Harjas 13-1-43-0, Uday 4-1-9-0.

At stumps, Punjab had reached 3 without loss in two overs, Vihaan Malhotra and Harnoor Pannu unbeaten on 0, with three no-balls recorded by Dipjyoti Saikia accounting for the only runs. Assam’s short spell bowlers had conceded those three extras, with Mukhtar bowling 1-1-0-0 and Dipjyoti 1-0-3-0.
