Devon Conway ruled out of New Zealand ODIs; Nick Kelly to join squad
Devon Conway has been withdrawn from the remaining matches of New Zealand’s ongoing ODI series against India after sustaining a concussion during training in Auckland on Tuesday (November 3, 2026), and left-handed batter Nick Kelly has been called into the squad.
Conway, described in team reports as a big-hitting batter, was taken to the Accident and Emergency unit of an Auckland medical facility for assessment following the incident that occurred prior to the first ODI. New Zealand Cricket confirmed his withdrawal from the rest of the series in a press release. The series is being contested between New Zealand and India.
Nick Kelly, who was already named in New Zealand’s squad for the fourth and fifth ODIs, will join the national side in Wellington on Friday (November 6, 2026). New Zealand Cricket stated in the press release that Kelly will replace Conway for the second match of the series on Saturday (November 7, 2026). Kelly is a left-handed batter and his arrival was announced as part of the squad change.
The concussion occurred during a training collision in which Conway was involved prior to the opening ODI. Conway was assessed at an Auckland medical facility’s Accident and Emergency unit after the incident. Team medical staff subsequently determined he would be withdrawn from the remaining fixtures.
Matt Henry, who collided with Conway during the fielding incident, has been cleared of concussion and is available for selection. New Zealand Cricket’s statement confirmed Henry faces no medical barriers to selection for the next match. No further player availability issues were reported in the release.
Auckland Aces batter Dale Phillips has been called up to the New Zealand A squad as a replacement for Kelly for the final four-day match against India A. The final four-day match against India A begins on Saturday, according to New Zealand Cricket’s announcement. Phillips was selected to fill the vacancy created by Kelly’s promotion to the senior squad.
The second ODI between New Zealand and India will be played at Wellington’s Sky Stadium on Saturday (November 7, 2026). India lead the series 1-0.
