Disney+ has secured rights to broadcast podcast content from Gary Neville’s The Overlap on its platform in a multimillion-pound deal announced on 13 August 2026, in a move framed as a response to Gary Lineker’s Netflix agreement. The deal will see Disney+ carry multiple series produced by The Overlap while the content continues to be available on YouTube.

The Overlap was launched by Gary Neville and former Sky Sports producer Scott Melvin in 2021 and has expanded its output beyond football. The company reported attracting 38m monthly views on YouTube and said it achieved 2.2bn views across all platforms in 2025. It has broadened into other sports, with the Stick to Cricket podcast presented by Michael Vaughan and David Lloyd introduced last year.

Under the agreement, which includes title sponsorship, Disney+ will broadcast 40 episodes of Stick to Football this season featuring Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott, Ian Wright and Roy Keane. The deal also covers 50 episodes of a new programme, Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, to be co-presented by Mark Goldbridge. Both programmes will remain available on YouTube, while Disney+ will commission six additional episodes of Stick to Football that will be exclusive to its subscribers for a limited period before release on YouTube.

The Overlap will retain the intellectual property rights to the shows, with Disney+ paying millions to attach its brand and distribute the content on its platform. Neville said: “We’re immensely proud to be partnering with Disney+” and added: “It’s a partnership that expands our reach without compromising our identity. “What’s exciting is that we’re not changing who we are. Our community will continue to enjoy our content in exactly the way they always have through YouTube, while at the same time Disney+’s incredible global streaming audience will now be able to discover and enjoy it too.”

Media group Global bought a majority stake in The Overlap last January and in April acquired Mark Goldbridge’s YouTube channels, The United Stand and That’s Football. Those transactions preceded the Disney+ agreement and form part of The Overlap’s recent commercial expansion.

Wayne Rooney will join The Overlap on a permanent basis after previously appearing as a guest, and Disney+ has purchased the rights to a new documentary about his family life, The Real Rooneys. The stick-to-United series and the documentary form part of the slate covered by the Disney+ deal.

Disney+’s investment follows a similar arrangement announced last month between Netflix and Gary Lineker’s Goalhanger production company, whose Rest is Football series featuring Alan Shearer and Micah Richards will be available on Netflix for the next two seasons. Rest is Football appeared in Netflix’s daily top 10 charts on every day of its 40-day run of daily episodes filmed during the World Cup and obtained more than 7m monthly streams for its content last season, prompting Lineker to joke that its rival is “languishing miles behind”.

Disney+ will broadcast 40 episodes of Stick to Football this season, carry 50 episodes of Stick to United and provide six additional Stick to Football episodes exclusively to subscribers for a limited time before their release on YouTube.
