Djurgården target Boreham Wood forward Abdul Abdulmalik amid summer interest
This summer, Boreham Wood forward Abdul Abdulmalik has attracted sustained interest from Swedish top-flight side Djurgården, who have been monitoring the 23-year-old's progress.
Abdulmalik enjoyed a breakout 2025-26 campaign for Boreham Wood, scoring 17 goals and supplying 10 assists as the club reached the National League play-off final; he both scored and assisted at Wembley. He progressed through Millwall’s academy, represented England at under-17 level and was part of Millwall Under-21 sides that won the Professional Development League South in 2022-23 and 2023-24. After failing to establish a place in Millwall’s senior squad he was released in 2024 and signed for Boreham Wood as a free agent, where he has become a regular attacking presence.
Djurgården’s recruitment model focuses on identifying players before their market value peaks with the aim of selling for profit. The club recently appointed Max Hahn as sporting director after he left West Ham following their relegation to the Championship; Hahn had been head of recruitment at West Ham and worked under Sweden manager Graham Potter during his time at the club. That organisational approach explains Djurgården’s interest in players operating outside the top European leagues.
Djurgården point to recent transfers as proof of concept: August Priske joined the Swedish club from Midtjylland in 2024, scored 18 league goals in 2025 and subsequently moved to Birmingham City in January 2026. The pathway taken by Priske is cited by the club as an example of buying players who can develop in Sweden before being sold onward.
That figure is significant because it would match the record direct sale by a National League club, the fee Leicester City paid Fleetwood Town for Jamie Vardy in 2012 before he went on to become a Premier League champion and England international.
Djurgården have twice tested Boreham Wood’s resolve with bids, and the latest offer totalled £1m; Boreham Wood have made clear that Abdulmalik is not for sale.
