Dorgu returns to training as Manchester United prepare to face AS Roma in Champions League

Patrick Dorgu returned to Manchester United squad training on Monday as the club prepared to host AS Roma in a UEFA Champions League fixture at Old Trafford on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford were absent from training on the eve of the match.

Dorgu had been sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained while representing Denmark against Wales during the September international break. He joined Manchester United from Lecce in January 2025 and, although he has occasionally deputised at left-back for Shaw this season, the club has mainly deployed him as a winger. The absence of Dorgu and Shaw has left Michael Carrick without a reliable senior left-back option for the Roma tie.

Shaw and Rashford missed training once more after skipping the session on Monday morning. Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw are absent from today's training session [@samuelluckhurst]. Carrick is expected to provide an update on his fitness ahead of the game.

Manchester United are seeking to end a nine-game winless run that stretches back to the end of August, when they defeated Ipswich Town 5-2 at Old Trafford in what remains their only Premier League victory this season. The club lost to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and sit 17th in the English top division.

Xabi Alonso’s team won three points in that Chelsea match thanks to goals from Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer, while Lisandro Martinez was sent off for two bookable infractions. Carrick has come under increasing pressure as United’s sequence without a victory has continued.

Carrick apologised to travelling supporters after Como’s Champions League thrashing two weeks ago, raising his hands in recognition of the fans in Italy. He will provide further information on squad fitness and availability in a pre-match update.

The Champions League match will be played at Old Trafford on Tuesday, November 3, 2026; in India the game will kick off at 1:30 AM IST on November 4.
