Manchester United and Aston Villa played out a 4-4 draw in a Premier League match on 8 November 2026, with Patrick Dorgu scoring a 96th‑minute equaliser that completed a late comeback for United. Joshua Zirkzee had earlier reduced the deficit in added time before Dorgu’s header struck the net, and referee Chris Kavanagh soon blew for time after further on-field confusion.

Michael Carrick’s side arrived having been urged to build on Tuesday’s comeback against Roma and, although they avoided defeat, the match exposed defensive failings: Senne Lammens (twice), Diogo Dalot and Leny Yoro were cited as culpable for the Villa goals. United have won three games from 15 this season, only one of those in the league on 30 August when Ipswich were beaten 5-2, and they enter the international break in 18th place. Jason Wilcox has so far been reluctant to dismiss Carrick, while supporters displayed a message in the Stretford End reading "Your funeral not ours, sell up" aimed at the Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Aston Villa struck inside the opening four minutes with two quick goals. Alysson scored 48 seconds in when his shot went through Lammens’ legs, and an Alysson effort four minutes later deflected to Lammens’ left and set up Nicolas Jackson to score, with the match already threatening to run away from United.

United responded in the first half to draw level. Cunha drove into Villa’s box and was fouled by Boubacar Kamara; Kavanagh awarded a penalty and Bruno Fernandes converted 16 minutes in with Zion Suzuki choosing the wrong way. United pressed thereafter and Youri Tielemans turned a Noussair Mazraoui cross into the net to make it 2-2 at the interval.

The second period swung back in Villa’s favour early on after Diogo Dalot fouled Alysson two minutes after the restart, conceding a penalty which John McGinn scored to make it 3-2. Later, McGinn’s free‑kick from the right produced a header from Leny Yoro that forced Lammens to tip the ball onto the frame and Leon Goretzka bundled in, restoring Villa’s two‑goal lead.

Carrick made a triple substitution on 65 minutes, bringing on Shea Lacey, Patrick Dorgu and Mason Mount for Tielemans, Amad Diallo and Dalot, with Dalot reportedly jeered as he left the field. Late drama followed: Joshua Zirkzee scored in added time to make it 4-3, and Dorgu’s header in the 96th minute glanced in to level at 4-4. Kavanagh then sent off what appeared to be a member of Villa’s technical staff before ending the contest.

Villa supporters at times taunted Carrick with the chant "Sacked in the morning." For two minutes and 46 seconds earlier in the day United had briefly occupied bottom spot on the table when Sunderland went 1-0 up against Chelsea and Liverpool scored at Crystal Palace.

United head into the international break occupying 18th place in the league, having taken three wins from 15 across the season; the draw leaves Carrick’s side with a single league victory since 30 August and questions over consistency as fixtures resume after the break.
