Drummond returns to claim Scottish mixed doubles crown with Kyle

Vicky Drummond and Euan Kyle won the Scottish Curling Mixed Doubles Championship in Aberdeen on 4 October 2026, beating Katie McMillan and Archie Hyslop 8-1 in the final. The pair completed the event with a 100% winning record.
Drummond, 33, who is an intensive care nurse and competed under her maiden name Wright at the 2022 Olympics, had stepped away from the sport shortly after winning Olympic gold. Kyle, a bronze medallist from this year's World Championship, partnered Drummond in the tournament and the duo won every match they played in Aberdeen this week.
The final was decided in five ends as Drummond and Kyle produced an 8-1 victory over McMillan and Hyslop. That scoreline secured the title for the partnership without the need to play the remaining scheduled ends.
Reflecting on her comeback, Drummond told British Curling: "It really doesn't feel like I have been away for that long and, once I got into the flow of things, with the practice and the games it literally was like riding a bike. "I did have a nervous tummy and, if I didn't have that, I knew it would be the time to hang up the shoes again, but the butterflies are back and the excitement is there and the enjoyment is there, so I am really proud of what we have achieved this week. It's been pretty, pretty special."
Kyle spoke about longer-term ambitions and the circumstances of their partnership, saying: "It is a long way off, but this has been a great start to the cycle, so hopefully Vicky and I will get the call up to the World Champs," he said. "When I got the call this summer from an Olympic gold medallist to ask if I wanted to partner her in mixed doubles, I was really chuffed. "I would have been mad to turn down an opportunity like that and, from the start we just clicked."
Runners-up McMillan and Hyslop dropped two of their six group matches but progressed past the previously unbeaten pairing of Sophie Jackson and Duncan McFadzean by winning their semi-final.
Drummond's former Olympic skip, 36-year-old Eve Muirhead, returned from retirement to contest the event alongside Bobby Lammie but did not reach the play-offs, finishing fourth in their seven-team section; Muirhead also served as Team GB's chef de mission at this year's Olympics.
Kyle said the result was an encouraging beginning to the new cycle and added: "It is a long way off, but this has been a great start to the cycle, so hopefully Vicky and I will get the call up to the World Champs," he said.
