East Bengal enter the continental competition fresh off domestic success, having been crowned ISL 2025-26 champions and winning the Durand Cup 2026. Antonio Habas’s side secured their place in the group stage by defeating Al-Arabi 4-1 in the preliminary round and have been drawn into Group D alongside Al Hussein SC, Al Shorta SC and Al Seeb Club. The club aim to record a victory in their opening fixture in Amman and deliver a result for supporters following the team from India.

East Bengal’s recent domestic form includes a 4-1 Durand Cup triumph over arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in which Edmund Lalrindika scored a hat-trick. The squad travelled from Kolkata without new forward signings Effiong Nsungusi and Ake Loba and will rely on an attacking unit featuring Edmund Lalrindika, Ikonomidis, Bipin Singh, PV Vishnu, David Kimar and Jesin TK. The club has described their group-stage return to the Asian stage as a chance to test the team’s progress under Habas.

Defensively and in midfield, East Bengal’s plans include the potential partnership of Anwar Ali with new defensive addition Diego Zivulic. Coaching staff have presented the pairing as a positive option for stability at the back as the team prepares for the away fixture in Jordan.

Al-Hussein SC enter the match with a strong domestic pedigree, having won multiple Jordanian Pro League titles, and the squad includes five players from the Jordan national setup who found themselves in the current FIFA World Cup 2026 squad. The Jordanian side arrive in the group stage as East Bengal’s first opponent in Group D and will host the Matchday 1 fixture in Amman.
