East Bengal FC defeated Mohun Bagan SG 4-1 at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata to win the Durand Cup 2026 final on 2026-08-23. The stadium was described as completely packed for the Kolkata Derby.
Both sides entered the match aiming for the trophy, with Mohun Bagan dominating the opening minutes and creating repeated chances while East Bengal initially looked on the back foot. Bipin Singh opened the scoring with a piledriver in the 10th minute that shifted momentum, and Edmund Lalrindika followed with a goal in the 12th minute to make it 2-0.
Edmund added a second goal in the 22nd minute after combining with Dani Ramirez, and Mohun Bagan halved the deficit when Manvir Singh scored with his left foot in the 33rd minute to make it 3-1. Edmund completed his hat-trick in the 44th minute from a Jay Gupta pass, and the match finished 4-1 in favour of East Bengal.
Goalkeeper Gill produced a notable save from a Liston Colaco free-kick in the 20th minute and intervened outside his box with a crucial tackle in the 39th minute. Jay Gupta, operating as left wing-back, assisted Edmund’s third goal, while Sandip frequently pushed up from centre-back and Mandi contributed defensive work when required. Anwar was credited with multiple blocks, clearances and tackles across the game, and his partner at right centre-back made no major mistakes as they coped when Mohun Bagan had more possession in the second half.
From the wide and midfield areas, Hardik Bhatt supported attacks from right wing-back and played a role in the third goal, while Dani Ramirez supplied the assist for Edmund’s second and combined with Jeakson to control possession in the first half. Jeakson remained composed on the ball, took a couple of long-range shots that were off target and received a yellow card for a strong tackle in the 60th minute.
Edmund Lalrindika finished with three goals, scoring in the 12th, 22nd and 44th minutes, and was substituted in the 70th minute; the Malappuram-based attacker Jesin replaced him and missed a one-on-one chance shortly after coming on. Bipin Singh scored the opener and won the possession that led to the third goal before being substituted in the 88th minute. Mohammed Asif Khan was given a 5/10 rating and was brought on in the 70th minute as a replacement for Ramirez according to the match report.
Mohun Bagan’s goalkeeper Vishal Kaith, who had won the Durand Cup 2026 golden glove, conceded four goals and was described as not at his best despite making some saves, including from Bipin. Defenders Rahul Bheke and Alberto were assessed as poor outings with limited recovery pace on counters, while Subhasish Bose was described as out of touch. Other Mariners players received mixed assessments: Abhishek Tekcham was noted as an offensive full-back but wasteful in possession; Apuia and Anirudh Thapa were judged to have struggled; Samir Zeljkovic was substituted at half-time; Liston Colaco and Manvir Singh were described as ineffective overall despite Manvir scoring; Jamie Maclaren and Miguel Figueira were singled out for poor performances, with Miguel noted as having made a move from East Bengal to Mohun Bagan before the final.
The 4-1 result confirmed East Bengal FC as the winners of the Durand Cup 2026 final at VYBK Stadium in Kolkata.
