England beat USA 134-0 at Wollongong to reach Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup semi-finals

England beat USA 134-0 at Wollongong Entertainment Arena to reach the semi-finals of the 2026 Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup on 3 November 2026, captain Mason Billington said the team had improved to a "seven out of 10".
England have reached the final in all four previous editions of the Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup, and Billington assessed the side's performance after the win, saying: "At least a seven. All week, we have been banging on about playing the way we want to play, and the boys really stuck to their principles. "I'm over the moon for the guys to put on such senior performances." Rob Hawkins had earlier rated the team five out of 10 after an opening 98-18 victory over Wales.
England scored 23 tries in the 134-0 victory, with Mason Billington leading the side at Wollongong Entertainment Arena as they overwhelmed USA. Luis Domingos, making his first appearance at the tournament, scored four tries for England; Chris Haynes and Billington also finished with four tries apiece, and eight different players got on the scoresheet.
Finlay O'Neill was named player of the match after scoring 38 points through two tries and 15 conversions. O'Neill said: "It was a good team effort, not just myself." He added: "We talked about how we could improve, and I think we did that. "We need to take the positives - [there are a] few areas to work on but I think we can be very happy with that performance."
The four semi-finalists have been set, with final group games to determine the knockout pairings. In Pool A, Ireland ensured qualification alongside England with a 68-28 victory over Wales; Ireland, who are ranked third in the world, will face England in their final group game on Friday in Wollongong (06:00 GMT).
Two-time champions France and hosts Australia both progressed from their pool while scoring triple figures: France beat New Zealand 120-10 and Australia defeated Scotland 104-24. France and Australia will play on Friday to decide the Pool A winners.
Scotland, New Zealand, Wales and USA move into a ranking competition to determine fifth through to eighth place, with Wales set to face USA in Pool A on Friday and Scotland to play New Zealand.
The result sends England into the World Cup semi-finals, where they will face either France or Australia next week.
