Enzo Maresca becomes one of four managers to win their first six Premier League games in charge

Enzo Maresca’s side beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield on Sunday, delivering his sixth win in six Premier League matches since he took over from Pep Guardiola this summer and placing him among four managers who have begun a Premier League tenure with six straight victories.

Managing a Premier League club presents intense pressure and only a small number of coaches have produced immediate winning runs that establish early momentum, create a clear team identity and raise their club’s standing, according to the report.

Maresca’s start is described as one of the most successful in Premier League history; he became the second Manchester City manager to win his first six Premier League games in charge after Pep Guardiola. Achieving that sequence at Anfield — and at a ground where City had won only three league games before the turn of the decade — was singled out in the coverage as a noteworthy element of his team’s early surge.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earned his first six Premier League wins as Manchester United manager after taking over in December 2018. He became the first coach in United history to win his first six league games in charge, breaking Sir Matt Busby’s previous record of five victories.

Pep Guardiola won Manchester City’s first six Premier League games as manager in 2016/17 and is one of a small group of Premier League bosses to open their spells with a six-match winning run. The article notes Guardiola’s period at City included unprecedented title wins, numerous records and a lasting legacy.

Carlo Ancelotti won his first six Premier League games as Chelsea manager in 2009/10 and is identified as the first Premier League manager to reach this six-win landmark. The piece also references Ancelotti’s reputation for multiple Champions League victories and his role in turning Chelsea into a powerful side during his tenure.
