Eva Olid poised to become Manchester United Women head coach
Manchester United are expected to appoint former Heart of Midlothian manager Eva Olid as head coach of their women’s team, with the Spaniard set to meet United players on Wednesday as the club finalises her hiring. She would take over following Marc Skinner’s resignation by mutual consent on Monday, a month before the start of the Women’s Super League season.
Olid left Hearts this summer after guiding the club to its first Scottish Women’s Premier League title last season. She joined Hearts in 2021 and had signed a contract extension running to the summer of 2026 with the option of an additional year; the club confirmed in April that she would depart at the end of the season by mutual consent.
Her coaching career began in 2011 in Spain with spells at Sant Quirze FC, Sant Cugat FC and Sabadell FC. In 2019 she moved abroad to work with Houston Dynamo/Louisiana Krewe’s youth and senior teams, and in 2020 she briefly returned to Spain to serve as the Catalan Football Association’s head coach.
Olid’s breakthrough came when she was appointed Hearts manager in 2021, arriving with the Edinburgh side bottom of the league. She moved the squad from an amateur setup to full professional status during her tenure. Speaking after a 2-1 win over Rangers that extended Hearts’ lead to four points, Olid said: "That is what I dream, winning the league with them."
She led Hearts to their first major domestic final in the 2024 Scottish Women’s Cup, where they lost 2-0 to Rangers. In her final season (2025-26) she guided the club to its first SWPL title, finishing two points ahead of Rangers.
Olid has been characterised as "very intriguing, in that she has looked to combine different aspects of traditional tactics from Spain, the USA and Scotland (where she has coached during her career) to come up with her own identity." Her coaching style is described as possession-based and technical, emphasising progression through the lines and maintaining tempo; she prefers combination play over long-ball tactics to keep her teams confident under pressure.
The 40-year-old Spanish manager, who led Heart of Midlothian from 2021 to 2026 and transformed them from the foot of the table to Scottish champions, is expected to join Manchester United Women as their next head coach.
