Everton re-sign Jack Grealish on season-long loan from Manchester City

Everton have agreed a season-long loan deal with Manchester City to re-sign Jack Grealish, with the 30-year-old set for a medical at the Toffees and the move expected to be completed before Tuesday's 23:00 BST transfer deadline. The agreement comes during the final day of the summer window as Everton aim to finalise their business.

Grealish joins on loan after winning three Premier Leagues, a Champions League and an FA Cup with Manchester City. He spent a large chunk of last term at Everton under a similar arrangement, scoring twice and providing six assists in 20 appearances before sustaining a season-ending foot injury in January. The winger had been linked with other teams, including his boyhood club Aston Villa, but his preference was to return to Everton, whose chief executive Angus Kinnear told BBC Radio Merseyside that he had "remained in contact" with Grealish.

Everton's decision to bring Grealish back is tied to outgoing business at Goodison Park, with Toffees winger Iliman Ndiaye, 26, expected to complete a £65m switch to Manchester City. That potential sale has increased the urgency to reinforce the club's attacking options before the deadline. The club's summer recruitment has accelerated as a result.

Everton also look to be closing in on Monaco and USA forward Folarin Balogun in a £40m deal. At the same time, their bid to re-sign Brazil striker Richarlison from Tottenham appears to have stalled over personal terms. Those moves form part of a busy final-day transfer effort for the Merseyside club.

Grealish, who joined City from Villa for £100m in August 2021, has made two appearances for Enzo Maresca's side this season. He came on as a substitute in their Community Shield defeat by Arsenal and then off the bench in the Premier League win against Bournemouth in the opener. He did not figure in City's 4-1 victory at Crystal Palace on Friday.

Scotland defender Nathan Patterson, 24, could move to Serie A side Torino before Tuesday's transfer deadline, with talks under way between the clubs. It is not yet clear whether any transfer would be on loan or a permanent move.

Everton are next in action on Sunday when they host Manchester United in the Premier League at 14:00 BST.
