Every Formula 1 World Champion who has won with Mercedes

Mercedes-Benz drivers who have won the Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship are listed in this article, published on 20 October 2026, and compiled to show every champion who has achieved the title while driving for the Silver Arrows.
The Silver Arrows first entered Formula 1 as a constructor in 1954 with the W196 racing car. After competing in 1954 and 1955 the team withdrew from international motorsport following the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans disaster that killed Mercedes-Benz sportscar driver Pierre Levegh and more than 80 spectators. The withdrawal encompassed Mercedes’ participation in Formula 1.
Mercedes returned to the sport in the 1990s as an engine supplier and re-emerged as a full works team in 2010 after acquiring Brawn GP. Those initial seasons as a factory team were described as challenging while Mercedes worked to establish itself in the contemporary Formula 1 landscape. The team’s position improved rapidly after that period.
The introduction of the hybrid era in 2014 coincided with Mercedes’ return to the top of the sport, and the Silver Arrows secured back-to-back Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles during that phase. The period of dominance that began with the hybrid regulations is a central feature of Mercedes’ recent Formula 1 history.
Nico Rosberg won the 2016 World Drivers’ Championship after a season-long battle with Lewis Hamilton and announced his retirement afterward. The article states that in the ground-effect era from 2022–2025 the Silver Arrows struggled and failed to deliver consistently performing cars for their drivers. The Turbo-Hybrid Era in 2026 is described as a return to form for Mercedes, with the W17 consistently fighting for wins and the team “comfortably cruising towards another Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles in 2026.”
Juan Manuel Fangio became the first driver to win the Formula 1 World Championship with the Silver Arrows in 1954. Lewis Hamilton holds the record for the most F1 World Drivers’ Championship titles with Mercedes, having won six titles with the team in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Lewis Hamilton is noted as the most recent driver to win the World Drivers’ Championship with Mercedes, claiming his seventh career title in the 2020 season, and no Mercedes driver has won the Drivers’ Championship since then.
The list of Formula 1 World Champions with Mercedes will be updated as more drivers from the Silver Arrows clinch the World Drivers’ Championship in the years to come.
