India will play Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series in New Delhi on September 13, 15 and 17, the BCCI announced on August 11. FanCode has been confirmed as the live-streaming partner for the series.

India and Afghanistan met in a three-match ODI series in June, after the Indian Premier League 2026, with India winning that contest 3-0. India most recently played a T20I series against Zimbabwe in the last week of July and won that series 3-0. That Zimbabwe series victory followed two consecutive T20I series defeats for India, 2-0 to Ireland and 4-0 to England.

FanCode was the streaming partner for India’s tour of Zimbabwe and will again carry the live coverage for the September T20Is. India have not yet announced their squad for the Afghanistan series. A return of India’s regular T20I players is expected for the upcoming matches.

Several players stood out on the Zimbabwe tour: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 151 runs in three matches, was named Player of the Series, hit the most boundaries and recorded a strike rate above 190. Mayank Yadav finished as the highest wicket-taker in that series with five wickets. The tour also served as the international debut for Ashok Sharma and Yash Thakur, and both players made their mark.

India had rested multiple regular T20I players for the Zimbabwe tour, including Arshdeep Singh, Sanju Samson and Axar Patel. Abhishek Sharma scored 11 runs across the three matches in Zimbabwe and, according to the source, his form has been underwhelming since the Ireland series. Those selection and form issues remain relevant ahead of the Afghanistan matches.

Afghanistan reached the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 and recorded a notable win over Australia in that tournament. They last played a T20I against India in 2024 during the T20 World Cup, a match India won by 47 runs. Afghanistan have also won their last three T20I series: 3-0 against Zimbabwe, 1-0 against Qatar and 2-1 against West Indies, and the rise of their T20I team has orchestrated another bilateral series with India.

The three-match T20I series starts on September 13 in New Delhi, with subsequent fixtures on September 15 and 17, and FanCode confirmed as the live-streaming platform; India’s final squad for the series is yet to be announced.
