FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC played out a 1-1 draw at the Fatorda Stadium in the second game of the ISL opening-day double-header on October 11, 2026, with Irfan Yadwad’s long-range strike cancelled out by Chiki’s header. The match produced few moments of note in the first half before opening up after the interval, and both teams finished level.

Clifford Miranda made the notable selection move of leaving Madih Talal on the bench, while Chennaiyin coach Gouramangi Singh omitted Ortiz from the starting XI and handed places to youngsters Akash Singh and Prachit Gaonkar. The first half was low on intensity and saw injuries to Glan Martins and Franchu, but the second period became an end-to-end affair culminating in Yadwad’s screamer and Chiki’s quick response to restore parity.

In goal for Goa, Bob Jackson had little to do in the opening 45 but made a crucial save in the second half to deny Ramon Tanque and was otherwise helpless to stop Irfan’s long-range effort. Chennaiyin keeper Mohammad Nawaz produced two routine saves in the first half and two important stops after the break but conceded the header that cost his clean sheet. Making his debut for Chennaiyin, Saheef completed 90 minutes and registered eight defensive contributions, while Lalhriatpuia Chawngthu was given a 6/10 rating and finished with an 89% passing accuracy.

Aakash Sangwan offered attacking quality from left-back for Goa, creating several chances with crosses and supplying the assist for Chiki’s equaliser, but the report criticises his defensive work for leaving space for Irfan’s goal and nearly allowing Ramon another opportunity later. Alex Zalaya was steady overall but was flagged for positional lapses on the goal and in the closing stages, and Sandesh Jhingan produced a last-ditch tackle to deny Ramon inside the six-yard box. Akash Singh’s first ISL appearance at right-back proved difficult as he struggled against Brison Fernandes and was wrongly booked in the first half; substitute Bryce Miranda later caused problems with dangerous crosses and runs.

Midfield was dominated by 20-year-old local Prachit Gaonkar, who started ahead of Tomba Singh and earned praise for calmness, positional discipline and numerous blocks and interceptions while matching up physically with Nikola Stojanovic and Ramon Tanque. Alex Vallejo contributed with accurate long passes and key interceptions before being replaced late by Harsh Patre, a substitution described as surprising; Harsh was effective defensively, winning all his tackles and ground duels and limiting Madih Talal’s influence. Franchu, who began in an advanced role, started slowly and was forced off midway through the first half with an injury.

On the flanks and in attack, Nemil was influential on the left, delivering creative crosses, interchanging with teammates and tracking back, but picked up a booking for a late challenge on Mohammad Nawaz. Udanta Singh struggled on the right against Muhammad Saheef and failed to convert good chances in the second half. Ortiz, introduced early after Franchu’s withdrawal, helped progress play, tested the woodwork with a long-range effort and nearly created a late decisive chance; Isak, brought on for Nemil, failed to attempt a dribble and missed two late opportunities. Tomba Singh’s late appearance saw him win a couple of crucial duels, and Ronney Wilson replaced a cramping Aakash Sangwan for the final minutes and narrowly escaped conceding when he lost an aerial duel to Ramon Tanque.

For Chennaiyin, Irfan Yadwad earlier had an attempt sail over before coming to life in the 63rd minute with the match’s opening strike, and Ramon Tanque is noted for improving after a quiet first half and for his involvement in the move leading to that goal. Ayush Chhetri recorded an 83% passing accuracy and was active in midfield, while Nikola Stojanovic started in an attacking role and was substituted in the 60th minute. Brison combined well on the left, completed one successful dribble and tested the goalkeeper before his 60th-minute withdrawal; Emmanuel was described as the pick of the defenders with five defensive contributions and frequent ball supply to wide players, and Nuno Reis is credited with marshalling the backline. Bryce Miranda combined with Ramon Tanque during the match and replaced Namgyal Bhutia in the 86th minute.

The draw left both FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC with one point apiece from their opening-day fixture in the ISL 2026-27 season after the second game of the double-header at Fatorda Stadium.
