FC Goa to face FK Arkadag in one-off AFC Champions League Two qualifier in Turkmenistan
FC Goa will travel to Turkmenistan to meet FK Arkadag in a single-match preliminary qualifier for the 2026-27 AFC Champions League Two on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. The fixture is a straight knockout, meaning both teams must treat the game as a decisive encounter.
FK Arkadag, founded in 2023 by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, enter the tie as the reigning Yokary Liga champions and will have home advantage. The club used substantial financial backing to recruit leading domestic players and has since won the Yokary Liga in three successive seasons and the Turkmenistan Cup three times. On the Asian stage Arkadag captured the AFC Challenge League in 2024-25, beating East Bengal in the quarterfinals, and last season reached the AFC Champions League Two Round of 16 before losing to Al-Nassr; across continental competitions they have recorded seven wins from 16 matches.
Arkadag appointed Mergen Orazov as head coach earlier in 2026; the 38-year-old’s managerial résumé includes a spell at Ahal FK where he helped secure the domestic double of the Yokary Liga and Turkmenistan Cup. Orazov served as Turkmenistan national coach from 2023 to 2025 and spent a short period at Lithuanian club Dainava. He also has a futsal background, having played for the Turkmenistan Futsal national team in the AFC Futsal Championship and coached Kopetdag in futsal to multiple Turkmenistan Futsal Super League titles.
Orazov prefers a 4-2-3-1 formation and a possession-oriented approach, instructing teams to build from the back with short, crisp passing while applying an aggressive high press. He will be focused on controlling possession and key zones of the pitch against FC Goa, combining attacking intent with defensive organization. Those tactical principles underpin Arkadag’s preparation for the one-off qualifier.
Forward Didar Durdyyew, 33, has been a central figure since joining Arkadag at the club’s inception in 2023 and has scored four goals in 28 international appearances for Turkmenistan. Didar finished as Arkadag’s top scorer in the Yokary Liga campaigns that ended in 2023-24 and 2024-25, netting 27 and 31 league goals respectively, and has continental experience from the club’s AFC Challenge League triumph.
Attacking midfielder Begenc Akmammedow emerged as another key offensive outlet, contributing 17 goals in Arkadag’s 2025 title-winning campaign. His role will be to support transitions into the final third and create scoring opportunities; the coaching staff will rely on his forward incursions to add a different dimension to Arkadag’s attack.
Arkadag have signalled an intention to dominate possession, press aggressively and move the ball quickly into dangerous areas while needing to convert chances to secure the result. The club also carry a positive record against Indian sides in Asian competitions, which Arkadag will aim to extend in front of their home supporters.
