FC Goa will face Chennaiyin FC at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa on October 10, 2026, in the second match of the Indian Super League 2026-27 opening-day double-header, with kickoff scheduled for 19:30 IST; Gouramangi Singh leads FC Goa and Clifford Miranda is in charge of Chennaiyin FC.

The fixture carries a rich ISL history and has produced more goals than any other matchup in the competition, featuring moments such as Stiven Mendoza’s winner in the 2015 ISL final and periods of FC Goa dominance; the two sides also met in a pre-season friendly a couple of weeks ago, which FC Goa won.

FC Goa enter the season after a summer of change: Manolo Marquez left to take over at Mumbai City FC and assistant Gouramangi Singh has been promoted; Singh’s first game in charge ended in a defeat to FK Arkadag in the preliminary stage of the AFC Champions League 2 2026/27 and the squad has undergone turnover with several key players departing, a number of Indian players arriving and a complete overhaul of the foreign contingent.

Their pre-season results were mixed — a victory over Chennaiyin in the friendly programme was followed by a 2–0 loss to I-League side Dempo SC, and FC Goa also played multiple friendlies against Goan sides as part of their build-up to the campaign.

Chennaiyin, who finished 13th in the ISL 2025/26, opted to retain Clifford Miranda and have pursued a squad rebuild that phases senior players out while bringing in younger recruits to adapt to the head coach’s possession-based approach; the Marina Machans have had no competitive match action but completed almost two months of pre-season and played seven friendlies, losing only to FC Goa and most recently recording a close win over Bengaluru FC.

FC Goa’s attack has been reshaped after Dejan Drazic departed for Mohun Bagan and the Gaurs signed Franchu from Kerala Blasters to fill the creative void; the preview highlights Franchu’s dribbling on the wings, line-breaking passes, positional interchangeability, set-piece deliveries and unpredictability, and notes that his combination with strikers Chiki and Ortiz will be a tactical concern for Chennaiyin.

Chennaiyin strengthened with the signing of Madih Talal, who returned from an ACL injury earlier this year and impressed for Jamshedpur FC last season despite registering just four goal contributions; the preview points to Talal’s importance to Jamshedpur’s push for the ISL Shield under Owen Coyle and says his combination play with Ramon Tanque will be influential for Chennaiyin, a side that scored just nine goals last season — the second-worst offensive record in the league.

Both clubs are expected to have fully fit squads available for the opener. Bob Jackson (GK), Ronney Wilson, Sandesh Jhingan, Alex Zalaya, Aakash Sangwam; Tomba Singh, Alex Vallejo; Isak Vanlalruatfela, Franchu, Muhammed Nemil; Chiki; Mohammad Nawaz (GK); Muhammed Saheef, Nuno Reis, Dippendu Biswas, Namgyal Bhutia; Ayush Chhetri, Nikola Stojanovic; Brison Fernandes, Madih Talal, Irfan Yadwad; Ramon Tanque;

The match on October 10, 2026, at Fatorda Stadium kicks off at 19:30 PM IST and will be broadcast live on Sony Ten 2 and Sony Ten 2 HD, with free digital streaming available on YouTube.
