FC Goa to play in AFC Challenge League 2026-27 after preliminary loss to FK Arkadag

FC Goa will feature in the AFC Challenge League 2026-27 after losing in the Preliminary Stage of the AFC Champions League Two to FK Arkadag at the Arkadag Stadium, the result reported on 2026-08-26. Their defeat in the qualifying phase means the Gaurs drop into the AFC’s third-tier club competition for the upcoming season.
The AFC Challenge League is the continent’s third-tier club tournament and provides a platform for clubs across Asia to test themselves at the continental level. FC Goa will be the second Indian side to appear in the competition; East Bengal FC was the first Indian entrant in the inaugural 2024-25 edition. Under coach Oscar Bruzon, East Bengal advanced from the group stage and reached the quarterfinals in that first edition.
East Bengal’s progress in the 2024-25 AFC Challenge League included a draw in their opening match against Bhutan’s Paro FC and subsequent victories over Basundhara Kinga and Nejmeh SC, which secured their place in the knockout rounds. The Red and Gold Brigade finished top of Group A with seven points.
The Torchbearers’ run ended in the quarterfinals when they lost to FK Arkadag by a 3-1 aggregate score and were eliminated from the tournament at that stage. That aggregate defeat concluded East Bengal’s participation in the inaugural AFC Challenge League.
FC Goa’s exit from AFC Champions League Two came after a 0-3 loss to FK Arkadag in the Preliminary Stage at the Arkadag Stadium. That result opened the path for the Gaurs to compete in the AFC Challenge League 2026-27.
Despite the AFC Challenge League being the third-tier competition, it will not at all be easy for the Gaurs. FC Goa will need to maintain their focus and give their best to do good in the AFC Challenge League.
FC Goa’s confirmed next step is participation in the AFC Challenge League 2026-27, where they will enter as the second Indian club to take part following East Bengal’s representation in the tournament’s inaugural edition.
