Ferran Torres signs for PSG from Barcelona as Atletico complete deal for Cristian Romero
Paris Saint-Germain have signed Spain forward Ferran Torres from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have completed the acquisition of Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero, with both clubs confirming the moves on Saturday.
Torres has agreed a contract with PSG running until June 2031, with media reports placing the transfer fee for the 26-year-old at approximately €50 million ($57.83 million). "I'm delighted to be beginning a new adventure at such an ambitious club as Paris St Germain," Torres said in a statement. "I'd like to thank President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Luis Campos and coach Luis Enrique for giving me the opportunity to join the team, which I hope to help win as many trophies as possible." He arrives after a campaign for Barcelona in which he scored 21 goals and provided three assists in 49 appearances across all competitions as the Catalan club retained their LaLiga title.
Torres also played a noted role for Spain at the 2026 World Cup, "scoring the extra-time winner in the final against Argentina to secure the trophy," and he has netted 25 goals in 65 appearances for his country. The forward originally joined Barcelona in 2022 from Manchester City and will reunite at PSG with coach Luis Enrique, who previously managed him with the national team.
Atletico Madrid signed Romero from Tottenham on a deal until June 2031, ending the Argentina international's five-season spell in north London. The Spanish club did not disclose financial details, though British media reported Atletico paid around £34.2 million ($46.27 million) for the 28-year-old defender.
Romero initially joined Tottenham on loan from Atalanta in 2021 before completing a permanent transfer and made 156 appearances, scoring 13 goals across all competitions for the Premier League side. He served as Tottenham Hotspur captain during his time at the club and addressed his departure on Friday, saying he was leaving with "a heart full of memories and enormous pride for everything we lived and achieved together."
The Argentina centre-back was part of his nation's World Cup-winning squad in 2022 and featured throughout the 2026 World Cup, including the final. His spell at Tottenham also included friction toward the end of last season when he drew criticism after travelling to Argentina prior to Spurs' final league match against Everton, while the club was still working to guarantee their Premier League status.
Both transfers were confirmed by the clubs on Saturday and each player is contracted to his new club until June 2031.
