FIDE apologises after lodging problems disrupt opening day of 2026 Chess Olympiad in Samarkand

FIDE apologised after accommodation problems disrupted the opening day of the 2026 Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.

The governing body said affected federations will be reimbursed for suitable accommodation for up to three days, and teams staying in substandard official hotels will receive compensation.

India was among the contingents affected.
