FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026: Cambodia beat Myanmar 1-0 in Challenge Division as group tables shift

Cambodia defeated Myanmar 1-0 in the Challenge Division of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 on Sunday, altering the Group B standings.

The inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup kicked off last week with eight teams split into two groups in the Premier Division and six teams split into two groups in the Challenge Division. Indonesia is hosting the Premier Division while Hong Kong is hosting the Challenge Division, and as of this report all teams have completed at least one match in both divisions.

Group A in the Premier Division comprises Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Singapore. Malaysia opened the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Bangladesh, while Indonesia beat 10-man Singapore 2-0 to collect three points. Malaysia and Indonesia meet on Monday at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta; Indonesia sit second in the group, will have home advantage and are considered favourites on paper for that fixture.

Group B of the Premier Division features Thailand, the Philippines, Pakistan and Vietnam. Thailand began with a 4-0 win over Pakistan courtesy of a brace from Teerasak Poeiphimai, and Vietnam edged the Philippines 1-0 with Nguyen Bac scoring the decisive goal. Thailand, top of the group, will face second-placed Vietnam on Tuesday; the winner of that match will have a foot in the Premier Division final.

Challenge Division Group A pairs Laos, Hong Kong and Brunei, with only the group winner guaranteed a place in the knockout stage. Laos have completed both of their fixtures, beating Brunei 3-1 in the opener and then losing 4-0 to Hong Kong on Monday. Hong Kong will meet Brunei on Wednesday, after which qualification for the Challenge Division final will be clarified.

Challenge Division Group B contains Myanmar, Cambodia and Timor-Leste; Myanmar have also played both of their games. Myanmar beat Timor-Leste 2-0 in their first match before losing 1-0 to Cambodia on Sunday. The group will be decided when Timor-Leste face Cambodia on 30th September; if Cambodia draw or win that match they will secure a place in the Challenge Division final.

Key upcoming fixtures that will determine group places are Malaysia v Indonesia at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Monday, Thailand v Vietnam on Tuesday, Hong Kong v Brunei on Wednesday, and Timor-Leste v Cambodia on 30th September, each of which will resolve the qualification scenarios outlined above.
