Filip Nowacki wins 200m breaststroke gold at European Aquatics Championships in Paris

British teenager Filip Nowacki claimed gold in the men's 200m breaststroke final at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris on 13 August 2026, finishing with a late burst in two minutes 7.70 seconds to edge out Caspar Corbeau. Lauren Cox and Freya Colbert also secured bronze medals for Great Britain at the meeting.

Nowacki is world junior champion in the 100m and 200m breaststroke. He is 18 years old. Nowacki made history for Jersey last month by claiming gold in the 200m breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Caspar Corbeau finished second in 2:07.78. Luka Mladenovic of Austria took third in 2:08.91. Briton Gregory Butler placed fifth in 2:09.45.

Italy's 19-year-old Sara Curtis won the women's 50m backstroke in a world record 26.56s. Curtis had broken Australian Kaylee McKeown's previous record by 0.23 seconds with a time of 26.63s in the semi-final on Wednesday and improved on that with her victory a day later. Mary-Ambre Moluh of France was second with 27.06 while Britain's Lauren Cox took bronze in 27.15.

Barbora Seemanova won the women's 200m freestyle in a championship record 1:54.38. Marrit Steenbergen of the Netherlands was second in 1:54.65. Great Britain's Freya Colbert took bronze in 1:55.81.
