Five former IPL winners feature in CPL 2026 led by Romario Shepherd

Romario Shepherd and four other players who have previously won Indian Premier League titles are participating in the Caribbean Premier League 2026, which has begun in 2026.

The 2026 edition is the 14th staging of the CPL, contested by seven teams across 39 matches since the competition’s inception in 2013. Several international stars are part of the event, though established IPL winners Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine are not included in this specific list. The tournament format runs through multiple group fixtures and knockout matches ahead of a scheduled final on 20 September.

Romario Shepherd claimed his first IPL title with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2025 when RCB won their maiden crown by defeating the Punjab Kings in the final. He was also part of RCB’s 2026 IPL squad when the franchise secured a second consecutive title. In CPL 2026 Shepherd is representing the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Quinton de Kock won the IPL twice with the Mumbai Indians during a three-year stint beginning in 2019, contributing to Mumbai’s back-to-back championships in 2019 and 2020. The South African wicket-keeper-batter is playing for the Barbados Tridents in the ongoing CPL season and has already made an impact with his batting.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was a member of Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL-winning campaign in 2024; although Phil Salt was KKR’s first-choice keeper-batter, Gurbaz remained in the squad and played a role in the playoffs. In CPL 2026 the Afghan opener is with the Guyana Amazon Warriors, generally opening alongside Shai Hope.

Moeen Ali has two IPL titles to his name, both won with Chennai Super Kings in 2021 and 2023, and he was part of CSK’s 2023 title-winning side contributing with bat and ball. He has been appointed captain of the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons for CPL 2026, with the squad noting his experience and expecting contributions in both disciplines.

Imran Tahir’s IPL honours include two championships with Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and 2021. The former South African spinner—described in reporting as one of the most in-form spinners in T20 leagues despite his old age—remains closely associated with the Guyana Amazon Warriors, the franchise he first captained to their maiden CPL title in 2023, and he continues as the team’s captain in 2026.
