Five notable botches from past WWE Money in the Bank matches

As WWE approaches the Money in the Bank 2026 Premium Live Event, several previous editions featured high-profile in-ring errors involving Ricochet and Logan Paul (2023), Seth Rollins and Damian Priest (2024), Andrade (2025), Sin Cara and Dolph Ziggler (2012), and John Cena and Big Show (2012).
The Money in the Bank ladder match is a multi-person contest in which competitors climb to retrieve a briefcase suspended above the ring; the briefcase contains a contract that guarantees the winner a championship match at any time and place within the contract’s validity period. The match concept first appeared at WrestleMania 21 on April 3, 2005, where Edge won the inaugural ladder bout. TKO-led promotion WWE is nearing its next Money in the Bank Premium Live Event in 2026, and the match has produced both signature moments and notable botches over the years.
In the 2023 Money in the Bank ladder match, Ricochet and Logan Paul attempted a Spanish Fly off the ropes through tables positioned outside the ring; both lost their footing early and the launch was botched, with the pair crashing awkwardly through the tables, though they escaped without serious injury.
At the 2024 Money in the Bank Premium Live Event, Damian Priest challenged Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship. Rollins hit Priest with a Falcon Arrow and covered him; Priest was supposed to kick out but his shoulders remained down, prompting the referee to stop his arm from completing the third count to prevent an unplanned title change. Triple H later said the count had to be stopped when Drew McIntyre arrived, but the stoppage did not occur as intended because of a backstage delay in hitting McIntyre’s music.
During the 2025 Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match, Andrade and El Grande Americano were brawling outside the ring when a ladder mishap struck Andrade in the face and then ricocheted to hit him in the crotch area; despite the impact, Andrade continued in the match.
In the 2012 SmackDown Money in the Bank ladder match, Sin Cara attempted a Spanish Fly but lost his grip, causing both participants to slip and crash into the mat; Dolph Ziggler went on to win that match and secured the MITB briefcase.
The 17-time WWE World Champion John Cena produced a widely circulated moment at the 2012 Money in the Bank event while competing in the Men’s ladder match. In the closing moments, Cena and Big Show were atop the ladder when Cena swung the briefcase to strike Big Show and the handle snapped off the hook, falling straight into Cena’s hands — a botch that became one of WWE’s most viral moments.
