Football supporters' organisations from several parts of the world launched a petition on Thursday calling for FIFA president Gianni Infantino to resign, citing controversy over his reported attempt to offer future World Cup revenues to private investors. The campaign was published under the hashtag #InfantinoOut and seeks both Infantino’s removal and changes to FIFA’s governance.

The petition urges a major overhaul of FIFA's governance to prevent similar controversies and accuses the president of attempting a commercial spinoff of the World Cup. "The shameful attempt by one individual - the FIFA President himself - to sell off the World Cup to private investors exposed a betrayal football will never forget," the petition said. Football Supporters Europe, Football Supporters Africa and the Independent Supporters Council in North America are named among the campaign’s backers, and they have been joined by roughly 40 national supporters' organisations from across the globe.

Gianni Infantino has so far refused to step aside despite mounting criticism from within football's governing structure. European governing body UEFA has previously said it no longer has confidence in the FIFA chief. Officials within CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation have also voiced concerns over his leadership.

The fan petition directly criticises Infantino’s conduct. "Gianni Infantino has demonstrated a profound failure of leadership, incompatible with democratic governance," the fan petition states. It also warns of structural problems within FIFA in its own words: "The concentration of power around the FIFA Presidency, combined with opaque decision-making, personality cult clientelism, and zero accountability has destroyed any remaining trust in the world governing body."

Supporters point to several other decisions associated with Infantino that have drawn opposition from fans. The campaign specifically cites his backing of the proposed European Super League and his efforts to introduce a World Cup every two years, saying both moves triggered strong resistance across sections of the football community.

"For the credibility of FIFA - and for the future of the game - he must resign," the petition adds. The petition continues to press for resignation and governance reform amid criticism from continental officials and supporters' groups.
