Former Australia 100m champion Jake Doran charged with alleged indecent treatment of a child

Former Australia 100m champion Jake Doran, 26, was arrested in Townsville on 13 October and charged with one count of "indecent treatment of child under 16 (indecent film etc)" as part of a Queensland police inquiry. Queensland police said the investigations covered the period between January 2025 and September 2026.
Doran works in business development at Tafe Queensland and has been training athletes in Townsville. He has deleted his Instagram account and his profile no longer appears on the Australian Athletics website. Queensland Athletics declined to comment on the matter.
Australian Athletics confirmed Doran has no paid or unpaid role with the national governing body but has prohibited him from involvement in the sport while the matter is ongoing. “Based on information provided to Australian Athletics, the organisation has imposed a provisional action on the athlete, prohibiting him from attending club, member association or Australian Athletics events, as well as banning him from participating in athletics training,” a spokesperson said. “The safety and wellbeing of all participants in our sport is paramount, and we take all allegations of this nature very seriously.”
Doran won the 100m at the Australian national championships in 2022, finishing ahead of Eddie Nketia in a wind-assisted time of 10.05sec. He went on to compete for Australia at the world championships and Commonwealth Games. He also won the national 200m title in 2023.
Since 2023 he has not recorded a 100m time faster than 10.39sec. Queensland police said investigations continue into the allegations. Doran has been contacted for comment.
He was bailed to appear at Townsville magistrates court on 5 November.
