Former Essex cricketer Robin Das appeared at Inner London Crown Court on 9 October 2026 charged with raping a woman twice in Brixton, south London. The 24-year-old is due to face a trial over the allegations.

Das, who is of Leytonstone in east London, is accused of carrying out the sex attacks in Brixton in March 2024. He was arrested by the Metropolitan Police in August 2025 and charged with the rapes in July, the court heard.

In court Das sat in the dock wearing a navy suit, white shirt and dark tie. Judge Freya Newbury set the timetable for the case and, addressing the scheduling, said: "I'm afraid we are all just really under the cosh at the moment."

Essex County Cricket Club confirmed Das made 60 appearances for the club and that he last played for them at a One-Day Cup match against Middlesex on 21 July. The club confirmed his playing record in a statement following the hearing.

The Chelmsford-based club suspended Das after he was charged and did not renew his contract at the end of the season. In a statement the club said: "This decision was separate from the ongoing legal proceedings." The club previously said the alleged rapes "took place outside club activities" and a spokesman added: "The club recognises the seriousness of the matter and will not comment further on the circumstances of the case."

Das was released on conditional bail at the end of the hearing and a five-day trial has been fixed for January 2028.
