Former national-level wrestler Amit arrested in Delhi in Ranchi NDPS case

Ranchi Police arrested Amit, a resident of the Sampla police station area in Rohtak district, Haryana, during a raid near Madhuban Chowk in Delhi’s Rohini area on August 18, 2026, in connection with an NDPS Act case registered at Dhurva police station. The arrest relates to Dhurva police station case number 116/23, an investigation that began after an FIR was lodged on April 20, 2023.
Amit is a former national-level wrestler who reportedly won a bronze medal at a national wrestling competition in 2013. Police say around 500 grams of a prohibited narcotic substance were recovered in the original inquiry linked to the Dhurva FIR. Investigators subsequently developed leads pointing to a wider drug-trafficking network in which Amit’s name surfaced.
Authorities say the accused had been absconding for a long time before information surfaced that he was hiding in Delhi. Dhurva police contacted the Delhi Crime Branch NR-II to track him down and coordinated an operation based on the intelligence received.
The raid near Madhuban Chowk in Rohini on August 18, 2026, was carried out with assistance from the Delhi Crime Branch team, and Amit was arrested during the operation. He was produced before a Rohini court, which granted a three-day transit remand, after which he was brought to Ranchi for further proceedings.
According to Hatia DSP Neeraj Kumar, the investigation has revealed the presence of an active network procuring opium from Jharkhand and transporting it to Delhi. Officers are now examining the links between suspects and tracing the movement of narcotics associated with the case.
Police are trying to identify the other people involved in the network and determine how the narcotics were being supplied to other states, and Amit is being investigated for his alleged links to that trade.
