On Tuesday, September 1 at Flushing Meadows the first round of the 2026 US Open reached its final day, with Coco Gauff, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz and Madison Keys among the high-profile players scheduled to begin their tournaments.

Several notable results from Day 2 set the scene: Carlos Alcaraz returned from a four-month wrist injury lay-off to record a straight-sets win over Roman Safiullin; defending champion Aryna Sabalenka beat Camila Osorio 6-2, 6-4 to extend her US Open winning streak to 14 matches; Iga Swiatek defeated Wang Xiyu 6-2, 6-3; and last year’s runner-up Amanda Anisimova marked her birthday with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Ashlyn Krueger. Both Swiatek and Anisimova moved into the second round without dropping a set.

Arthur Ashe Stadium carried the marquee matches: Gauff, the 2023 US Open champion, will open against Zeynep Sonmez with their meeting scheduled for 4:30 AM IST on September 2, and Gauff arrives after a strong run through the North American hard-court swing. Sonmez faces the task of opening the tournament against one of the home crowd’s biggest favourites.

Alexander Zverev, the men’s top seed, follows Gauff on Ashe and will face Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego in his opening match. Taylor Fritz is scheduled to play Darwin Blanch earlier on the same court, while Australian Open champion Madison Keys opens the day’s action against Alina Korneeva.

Significant matches away from Ashe include second seed Elena Rybakina versus Thea Frodin on Grandstand and fifth seed Mirra Andreeva versus Janice Tjen on Louis Armstrong Stadium. Lorenzo Musetti, Alex de Minaur, Gael Monfils and 17th seed Alexandra Eala were also listed to play across the grounds.

Session start times for the day were published in Indian Standard Time: Arthur Ashe Stadium — 9:00 PM IST; Louis Armstrong Stadium, Grandstand, Stadium 17, Court 5, Court 6, Court 7, Court 10, Court 11, Court 12, Court 13 and Court 15 — all listed at 8:30 PM IST.

Matches marked "Following" will begin after the preceding match on that court finishes and therefore do not have fixed start times, and the session timings above have been converted from New York local time to IST.
