LaLiga club Getafe submitted an official offer on Thursday, October 15 to sign former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, the club confirmed via reports in Spanish media. Spanish newspaper Sport, citing Sky Sports Germany, reported the offer was presented to Sancho’s representatives on that date.

Sancho has been a free agent since his Manchester United contract expired at the end of last season and has been searching for a club since then. The 26-year-old joined United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 in a deal worth £73 million but struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford. He subsequently had loan spells back at Dortmund, at Chelsea and at Aston Villa, spending last season on loan at Villa where he made 39 appearances and won the UEFA Europa League. United head coach Michael Carrick opted not to renew Sancho’s contract, leaving him available on a free transfer, and media reports say he is believed to favour a move away from England while remaining open to all options.

Sport’s report, as relayed by Sky Sports Germany, named Getafe as the club to lodge the first formal offer to Sancho on October 15. Other outlets noted Borussia Dortmund had considered re-signing him the previous month.

Financial details in public reports state Sancho’s market value is around 10 million euros and, because he is out of contract, no transfer fee would be required. Media coverage has identified the player’s wage demands as the principal obstacle, saying Getafe would need to fit his salary into their existing wage structure while respecting LaLiga’s economic guidelines.

Marca has reported Getafe see Sancho as a player who could make an immediate impact in Madrid, citing the example of Mason Greenwood’s loan to Getafe in 2023 and subsequent move to Marseille in 2024 as a club precedent. According to those reports, Getafe hope for a comparable trajectory for Sancho if a deal is reached.

Getafe have added other free agents this month, signing former Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal in October after his contract with Los Blancos expired at the end of last season. Media commentary has suggested, should the wage issues be resolved, Sancho would add quality to Jose Bordalas’ squad.

The next decisive step for the proposed transfer is whether Getafe can accommodate Sancho’s salary within their wage structure and satisfy LaLiga’s economic requirements; those conditions will determine whether the offer progresses to a completed signing.
