Morgan Gibbs-White will not play for Nottingham Forest against Leeds United at the City Ground in the Carabao Cup second round tonight, manager Oliver Glasner said. Glasner also confirmed that Nicolò Savona and Ryan Yates remain unavailable for the tie.

The match comes only a few days after Leeds defeated Forest in their opening Premier League fixture of the season, with Leeds travelling to the City Ground for the second-round meeting in the cup. Forest had been targeting their first competitive victory under Glasner, but the manager said the absence of key players has damaged that attempt. Glasner disclosed the latest injury update prior to the game.

Glasner gave details of Gibbs-White’s problem and the club’s short-term medical assessment, saying: “He got the ball and twisted his ankle, so the MCL was a little bit overstretched, and he has some pain in his knee. There is no structural damage, but there’s no point in risking him tomorrow. We’re working really hard to get him fit for the Liverpool game on Saturday.”

Glasner confirmed that Nicolò Savona and Ryan Yates are still out. Savona is still a few weeks away from returning to the field. All due to a little setback in his recuperation from a significant knee injury. At this point, only a gym routine is allowed. He has picked up a knee injury. It has not been confirmed yet.

On squad selection and the club’s approach to the cup tie Glasner said: “A lot of players look good and fresh and tomorrow is a cup competition,” and added: “We want to have the same approach no matter the competition and try to win a trophy. We’ll have fresh minds and we’ll try to win the game.” He also said rotation would be required given the timing of the fixture and reiterated that winning the game is Forest’s priority.

Forest will therefore be without Gibbs-White, Savona and Yates for the Carabao Cup second-round tie with Leeds, Glasner confirmed. He said the club is working to get Gibbs-White fit for the Liverpool game on Saturday.
