India captain Shubman Gill lauded pacer Anshul Kamboj after the first One-Day International between New Zealand and India in Auckland on November 4, 2026, saying the bowler suited the conditions. Gill delivered the remarks during the post-match presentation to the broadcaster.

A photograph accompanying the report showed Anshul Kamboj celebrating the wicket of New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner during the one-day international in Auckland, image credited to AP. Gill said he was delighted to see Kamboj’s excellent effort in the match. The comments formed part of India’s post-match assessment.

Gill told the broadcaster during the post-match presentation: “Anshul is the kind of a bowler. I think he’s tailor-made for these conditions, always nippy, trying to seam the ball, and good with the old ball.”

He added specifics on how Kamboj adapted to the wicket conditions: “We felt when there’s not much happening from the wicket, he can create that extra bounce and with his pace and the way both of them bowled tonight was really magnificent to watch,” he said.

On the team’s overall display, Gill said: “We were very good with the bowling and our fielding was also really good. That run out by Rohit bhai, I think changed the momentum of the game,” Gill said.

Gill also pointed to a decisive batting stand and summed up the collective effort, saying: “It was really that partnership as even in India also those two batted really well. Overall, a very good team performance for us.”
