Glenn Maxwell announced his retirement from international cricket on November 2, 2026, bringing a 14-year career with Australia to an end. The 37-year-old all-rounder represented Australia in all three formats and was a prominent figure in the country's white-ball sides.

Maxwell made his international debut in 2012 and was part of Australia's ODI World Cup-winning squads in 2015 and 2023. He also contributed to Australia’s 2021 T20 World Cup victory. Maxwell had retired from ODI cricket in June 2025 after 149 matches but continued to play T20 internationals until this announcement.

A defining moment of Maxwell's career occurred in the 2023 ODI World Cup match against Afghanistan in Mumbai when Australia were 91/7 while chasing 292. Maxwell produced an unbeaten 201 off 128 deliveries, despite suffering from severe cramps, and guided Australia to a three-wicket win. His innings included 21 fours and 10 sixes and featured an unbeaten 202-run partnership with Pat Cummins.

In Test cricket Maxwell scored 339 runs and took eight wickets over his appearances in the format. In ODIs he accumulated 3,990 runs at an average of 33.81, including four centuries and 23 half-centuries, and claimed 77 wickets.

In T20 internationals Maxwell scored 2,897 runs at a strike rate of 154.42, with five centuries and 12 half-centuries, and he picked up 51 wickets. Across T20 franchise cricket he featured in 530 matches, scoring 11,369 runs at a strike rate of 154.30 and taking 214 wickets.

In the Indian Premier League Maxwell represented four franchises in 141 matches, scoring 2,819 runs and taking 41 wickets. He also scored 3,317 runs in 129 Big Bash League appearances.

He finished his international career having played seven Tests and 130 T20 internationals, and he appeared in 286 international matches in total.
