Great Britain take two golds at World Track Cycling Championships in Shanghai

Great Britain won gold medals in the women's team pursuit and the men's scratch race on day two of the World Track Cycling Championships in Shanghai, China. Matthew Bostock and the quartet of Erin Boothman, Anna Morris, Josie Knight and Millie Couzens provided the victories.
Boothman, Morris, Knight and Couzens overturned an early deficit in the team pursuit final to beat world champions Italy by more than five seconds. In the scratch race Matthew Bostock made his move at the halfway point and held on to the lead to claim his first world title in Shanghai. Bostock, 29, also received a bronze medal for riding in earlier rounds of the team pursuit.
Henry Hobbs, Noah Hobbs, Ethan Vernon and Ollie Wood secured bronze for Great Britain in the men's team pursuit by defeating France in the bronze medal ride-off.
On day one Sophie Capewell won silver in the women's team sprint with GB team-mates Rhianna Parris-Smith and Emma Finucane. Finucane won the sprint title in 2023 and 2024.
Capewell, 28, won two races against China's Jiang Yulu in the best-of-three quarter-final and will be joined in the last four by Finucane.
Denmark beat Italy in the gold medal race to record their fourth consecutive title in the event.
British Cycling confirmed the withdrawal of Matt Richardson from the squad and did not give a reason for the 27-year-old Olympic medallist's removal. Richardson said he would co-operate with a British Cycling investigation into the allegations; he had been expected to contend for medals in the individual sprint and keirin.
Capewell and Finucane will contest the women's sprint semi-finals as the championships continue in Shanghai, and Great Britain leaves day two with two gold medals.
