GTA 6 pre-order revenue tops $630 million, Sensor Tower says

Sensor Tower reported on October 21, 2026 that pre-orders for Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI have generated more than $630 million in revenue and that 6.45 million copies have been sold through pre-orders in the United States.
The analytics firm’s figures were presented as evidence that GTA 6 is the largest gaming launch before an official release in history. The report says the bulk of purchases have been made on PlayStation platforms and notes Rockstar Games and PlayStation have repeatedly stated the game “plays the best on PlayStation 5.”
A circulated summary of Sensor Tower’s data listed 6.08 million digital pre-orders in the U.S. and put pre-launch revenue at around $594 million. That tweet framed those numbers to show how far ahead GTA 6 sits relative to other recent major releases. The post served as an abbreviated snapshot of the analytics firm’s wider estimates.
The same summary reported GTA 6 is 148% ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at the same point before release. Sensor Tower’s breakdown attributes 74% of total pre-orders to PlayStation platforms, which it quantified at about 4.8 million copies. The remaining pre-order sales were reported as occurring on XBOX.
Market research firm Newzoo provided a separate projection, estimating GTA VI could generate $5.2 billion in revenue during the launch week itself. Sensor Tower’s reporting also highlights that many purchasers wait until close to release, a pattern that could influence sales in the final week before launch. Sensor Tower and industry observers expect a spike in digital purchases as that period arrives.
GTA 6 pre-loading is scheduled to begin on November 12, 2026, one week before the official release. The game’s formal launch is set for November 19, 2026, which will be the next major milestone for measuring opening-week revenue and unit sales.
