Guglielmo Vicario to join Juventus on initial loan from Tottenham

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is set to join Juventus on an initial loan in the current transfer window, the clubs agreed on 17 August 2026. The move follows Vicario losing the No 1 spot at Spurs to Antonin Kinsky.
Juventus switched their target after deciding against pursuing Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez following a failed approach of €10m that was rejected over the weekend. Martínez, who had been linked with the Turin club after Villa agreed a deal to sign Parma’s Zion Suzuki for around £30m, is currently sidelined with a finger injury. With that route closed, Juventus reached an agreement to bring Vicario in on loan.
Vicario, 29, joined Tottenham in 2023 for £17.2m and has made almost 120 appearances for the club since his arrival. He lost his starting position under manager Roberto De Zerbi to Antonin Kinsky, and De Zerbi has also signed Martin Dubravka on a free transfer as cover for Kinsky. Those changes left Vicario surplus to requirements at Spurs.
The 29-year-old will become the latest player to leave Tottenham this summer after Cristian Romero, Djed Spence, Will Lankshear and Yves Bissouma. Spurs have already spent more than £200m on six new players in this transfer window, reflecting significant squad turnover. That spending spree coincides with Tottenham pursuing further additions to their squad.
Tottenham are reported to be keen on signing Savinho from Manchester City, with the Brazil forward omitted from Enzo Maresca’s Community Shield squad that lost to Arsenal in Cardiff and thought to be open to a move. The club have also been heavily linked with Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo as Roberto De Zerbi looks to add firepower to his attack.
The loan agreement for Vicario contains an option to make the move permanent next year for £8.6m, which would be the next contractual step if Juventus choose to exercise it.
