Gujarat Titans weigh releasing Shahrukh Khan and Glenn Phillips ahead of IPL 2027 mini-auction

Gujarat Titans are reportedly considering releasing Indian middle-order batter Shahrukh Khan and New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips ahead of the IPL 2027 mini-auction, a PTI report said.
The IPL 2027 mini-auction will give all 10 franchises an opportunity to reshape their squads, and teams have begun planning retentions and releases ahead of that event. The 2026 season concluded with Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeating Gujarat Titans in the final; Gujarat were captained by Shubman Gill and finished as runners-up.
Shahrukh Khan had been seen as a middle-order option for the Titans, while Glenn Phillips brought batting and all-round experience to the side. The report adds both players did not meet expectations in previous seasons, placing their places at the franchise under scrutiny.
Despite possible changes, the Gujarat management is described as relatively stable but open to adjustments aimed at improving squad balance for the next campaign. The same coverage indicates the Titans are likely to retain South African player Connor Esterhuizen ahead of IPL 2027.
Franchises can use the mini-auction to add players who fit specific needs, and ahead of that event teams must finalise which members to retain and which to release. The final decision on the reported Gujarat releases has not been announced.
Gujarat will enter the retention and auction period with the stated objective of rebuilding a squad capable of challenging again after their runner-up finish in IPL 2026; the retention and release choices will be confirmed before the IPL 2027 mini-auction.
