Gulveer Singh takes silver in men's 10,000m at Asian Games 2026

Gulveer Singh won the silver medal in the men’s 10,000 metres at the Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya on Friday, September 25, finishing the final at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.

The 28-year-old from Uttar Pradesh added a second successive Asian Games medal to his record, having won bronze at Hangzhou 2022; he completed the Nagoya race in 28:29.38. His result at Aichi-Nagoya followed a season that already included major podium finishes in regional and multi-sport events.

Across the 25-lap final Gulveer remained in medal contention throughout, running ahead of world No. 22 Yamato Yoshii of Japan and Wenjie Wang of China. He crossed the line behind Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew, who claimed gold in 28:27.51, while Bahrain’s Albert Kiptoo took bronze in 28:34.38. The field produced a close top-three in finishing times.

Earlier achievements cited alongside this result include Gulveer’s gold in the 10,000m at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea. In 2026 he also secured a silver in the 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games and added a bronze in the 5,000m at the same edition, accomplishments recorded in the same season as his Asian Games silver.

Gulveer’s bronze at Hangzhou 2022 had ended India’s 25-year wait for an Asian Games medal in the men’s 10,000m. His accumulation of podium finishes across 2022–26 has been highlighted by those national milestones and regional championship success.

With his performance at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, Gulveer Singh became the first Indian athlete to win two Asian Games medals in the 10,000m event. He now holds two Asiad medals in the distance: bronze in 2022 and silver in 2026.
